Tools and books worth your time

These are the apps and books we mention in the videos. For each one: what it does, who it's good for, and what to watch out for. Nothing here is a recommendation for your personal situation.

Everyday banking and money abroad

Money abroad

Wise

What it is
A multi-currency account and cheap international transfers at the real exchange rate.
Good for
Moving abroad, getting paid in another currency, travelling.
Watch out
Wise is an e-money institution, not a bank: your balance is safeguarded but not covered by a deposit guarantee.

Bank

bunq

What it is
A Dutch app-only bank with sub-accounts you can split your salary into automatically.
Good for
The 1-hour money setup: separate pots for bills, buffer and fun.
Watch out
Most useful features sit in paid plans. Compare the monthly fee with what you would actually use.
Bank

N26

What it is
A German app-only bank with 'Spaces' for saving goals and instant spending notifications.
Good for
A simple free current account with good budgeting views.
Watch out
Features and interest differ per country and plan. Check what is offered where you live.
Bank

Revolut

What it is
An app bank with low-cost currency exchange and budgeting tools.
Good for
Travel and spending abroad.
Watch out
The app also pushes trading and crypto. Use it for everyday money and keep investing separate.

Budgeting and tracking

Budgeting app

YNAB

What it is
A budgeting app built on giving every euro a job before you spend it.
Good for
Tracking every euro for 90 days and finding your money leaks.
Watch out
Paid subscription after the free trial. A free spreadsheet does the same job if you prefer.
Wealth tracker

Finary

What it is
Shows all your accounts, investments and pension in one overview, including the fees you pay.
Good for
Spotting hidden fees and seeing your net worth grow.
Watch out
Advanced features need a paid plan. Connecting bank accounts means sharing data with a third party.

Side projects

For side projects

beehiiv

What it is
The newsletter platform we use for our own emails.
Good for
Starting your own newsletter or side income project.
Watch out
The free plan is enough to start. Paid plans only make sense once you have readers.
